Introduction
Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, including slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain.
Insulated Render Systems (Scotland) Ltd, trading as IRS Construction, has a zero tolerance approach to modern slavery. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships, and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our own business or in our supply chains.
This statement sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains.
Our business and structure
We are a specialist facade remediation and retrofit contractor operating across Scotland and England, with offices in Airdrie, Trafford Park in Manchester, and Southampton. Our core service lines are facade remediation and fire safety compliance, external wall insulation, and whole house retrofit.
Our supply chains
Our supply chains include manufacturers and suppliers of insulation, render and cladding systems, scaffolding and access providers, plant and equipment hire, specialist subcontractors, and professional consultants including architects, structural engineers and fire engineers.
We operate a self delivery model, with directly employed operatives carrying out the majority of installation work. This materially reduces our exposure to the labour risks associated with long subcontract chains, because we control recruitment, right to work checks, pay and conditions for the people on our sites.
Areas of risk
We recognise that construction is a sector with recognised modern slavery risk, particularly in relation to agency and temporary labour, sub-tier subcontracting, and the manufacture of imported materials.
Policies
Our approach is supported by our recruitment and right to work policies, our whistleblowing policy, our supplier code of conduct and our equal opportunities policy.
Due diligence
We carry out right to work checks on every directly employed operative before they start. We require our subcontractors and suppliers to confirm their compliance with the Modern Slavery Act and to satisfy themselves about their own supply chains. Where a supplier cannot give that assurance, we reserve the right not to place work with them.
Our accreditations, including SSIP and Constructionline, require evidence of our employment and supply chain practices and are independently assessed.
Reporting a concern
Anyone with a concern about modern slavery in our business or supply chain, whether an employee, a subcontractor or a member of the public, can raise it with us by emailing info@irsconstruction.co.uk or calling 01236 754500. Concerns can also be reported to the Modern Slavery and Exploitation Helpline on 08000 121 700.
